Winter Whale Watching
December 27-January 1 2019
Starting in late fall, Gray Whales leave their feeding grounds in the Arctic and travel south to breed in the warm waters off Mexico. With its expansive ocean views on elevated locations like capes and headlands, the Oregon Coast is a great place to spot these marine giants. During peak winter migration, December 27 through January 1, 2019, the best whale watching locations along the coast are staffed by trained volunteers to answer questions and help you spot whales. Through December 24 Nature's Coastal Holiday at Azalea Park
The bushes, trees, sculptures and sidewalks of Azalea Park are covered with hundreds of thousands of colored lights and put on a stunning display every evening from 5-9pm. Admission is $1 and free for children 12 and under. Cookies and hot cider available at the snack shack. Azalea Park, 640 Old County Rd.
Through December 16 Live Theater: A Christmas Cactus
Comedy, mystery and romance converge in this Eliot Byerrum play, directed by Kelly Scruggs. Christmas turns into a "Dickens" of a holiday for private eye Cactus O'Riley as she solves mysteries, delivers small miracles and takes a second chance on love and sleuthing. March 23-31 2019 Spring Whale Watch
Spring watching begins in late March as the gray whales travel north on their way towards Alaska. Whale watching volunteers will be stationed at 24 designated locations from 10am-1pm. Various Locations [more info]
March 23 2019 SOLVE Spring Beach Cleanup
Join SOLVE and thousands of volunteers from 10am-1pm to clean up litter and marine debris from the entire Oregon coast. Since 1986, this home-grown tradition of twice-yearly beach cleanups has benefited people and wildlife alike, supporting clean seas and healthy communities.
