Fairweather House & Garden features an art exhibit and musical performance by young emerging artist Kristin Qian in August. Qian, at age 13, is already an award-winning, multi-talented artist, musician and academic. More than a child prodigy of a single skill, Qian has achieved adult-level mastery of multiple subjects including violin, piano, language, painting, poetry, math and science. Her work recently received awards at the International Academy of Astronautics Young Arts competition. Qian's series of paintings on exhibit in Seaside is called L'humain et l'espace (Human and Space), combining the artist's exploration of the interaction between humans and space. Painted in oil on canvas, she combines realistic brushstrokes and abstract backgrounds containing surrealistic, symbolic and expressionistic approaches. Qian says, "By combining artistic creativity and scientific creativity we may be able to explore the deep abyss of space and create solutions that will intensify the connection between humans and space."
