Savor Cannon Beach Raises Funds for the Local Preschool and Children's Center

The Winter Wine Tour, a wine walk throughout town featuring over 30 Northwest wineries is a major fundraiser for the Cannon Beach Preschool & Children's Center and the largest event of the Savor Cannon Beach Wine & Culinary Festival.

Article ImageThe Winter Wine Tour is one of Cannon Beach Preschool & Children's Center largest fundraising events annually. An expected 500 wine and culinary enthusiasts will converge on Cannon Beach, Oregon March 8-11 for the Savor Cannon Beach Wine & Culinary Festival. What was once a one-day fundraiser for the Cannon Beach Preschool & Children's Center has grown into a four-day festival featuring wine tastings, wine dinners and the Winter Wine Tour with tastings from over 30 Northwest wineries hosted by Cannon Beach galleries, restaurants, hotels and merchants.

Nearly every type of business in Cannon Beach participates in the event. Galleries and retailers host wine tastings and plan related events, restaurants offer wine dinners and hotels offer package deals that include tickets for the four days of festivities. Past activities have ranged from specialty salt tastings, olive oil tastings to samples of dog treats for canine palates.

Saturday afternoon of the festival is the Winter Wine Tour, one of the Children's Center's largest fund raising events of the year. The Wine Tour was established in 2008 by the Center's board of directors. "Several of the members had ties to the hospitality and retail communities and thought that these local groups would be willing to collaborate on an event that used hotels, shops and restaurants as venues," says Catriona Penfield, director of the Children's Center. She goes on to say that the wine walk not only raises money for the Children's Center, but also draws people to town and into local businesses. As a non-profit organization, the center relies on fundraising to meet their annual budget. According to Penfield, "Approximately 25 percent of the budget depends on fund raising events."

The Wine Tour was originally presented on Presidents' Day weekend in February, but three years ago, Pelican Productions, Inc., a local media and marketing company approached the Children's Center about moving the event to March and having the Wine Tour be a part of a larger festival, a change requested by many Cannon Beach business to boost a typically slower pre-spring break weekend. This extended event is now the Savor Cannon Beach Wine & Culinary Festival.

Tickets are now available for the March 8-11 event. A festival ticket offers admission to all of the festival's official tasting events, seminars and a glass to participate in the wine walk. Festival tickets are $99 and are limited to 100. You can find more information on the event and purchase festival tickets online at SavorCannonBeach.com. Up to 400 additional tickets will be available for the Saturday Winter Wine Tour for $25.
