Get Lit at the Beach: A Gathering for Readers, April 13-15, 2012

Four New York Times best-selling authors will be featured: Terry Brooks, Jamie Ford, Elizabeth George and Susan Wiggs.

Article ImageAuthor Elizabeth George to attend literary event in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Get Lit at the Beach is a new Cannon Beach literary event that features four New York Times bestselling authors over the three-day event, April 13-15. Presenting the event is Tolovana Arts Colony, a non-profit arts organization based in Cannon Beach. Events are planned beginning Friday evening and closing Sunday afternoon.

Opening the weekend Friday night is a Meet the Author's Reception at The Ocean Lodge in Cannon Beach from 5-6:30pm. Three of the four authors, Brooks, George and Wiggs, will be on hand to greet fans and literature enthusiasts. On Saturday beginning at 10am, authors will give a personal talk on their work in the Surfsand Resort Ballroom in Cannon Beach. Elizabeth George is the featured speaker at dinner, which begins at 6:30pm. Closing the three-day event on Sunday morning, all four authors will attend a Q & A session at the Coaster Theatre, in Cannon Beach from 10am-Noon.

Kicking off Saturday's author talks, Susan Wiggs speaks from 10am-11:30. Wiggs is currently number one on the New York Times Paperback Mass-Market Fiction List for Marrying Daisy Bellamy. Her novel The Charm School was voted one of RWA's Favorite Books of the Year. She is the proud recipient of three RITA awards for Lakeside Cottage, Lord of the Night and The Mistress.

Author Jamie Ford follows with his talk from 1-2:30pm. Ford's debut novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, was a New York Times bestseller and went on to win the 2010 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. His work has been translated into 32 languages. Ford is still holding out for Klingon (that's when you know you've made it).

Terry Brooks speaks from 3-4:30pm. Brooks has authored more than 25 New York Times bestselling novels. Inspired by JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, Brooks published his first novel, The Sword of Shannara, in 1977. It became the first work of fiction ever to appear on the New York Times Trade Paperback Bestseller List, where it remained for over five months.

Elizabeth George is the featured speaker during dinner from 7-9pm. George is the New York Times best selling author of sixteen crime novels set in Great Britain, featuring Scotland Yard's Thomas Lynley. Most of these novels have been filmed for television by the BBC and have been broadcast in the US on PBS's Mystery. George is also producing a young adult series set in the Pacific Northwest on Whidbey Island; the first of which is anticipated in September 2012.

Event tickets are on sale for $75 and include all the schedule author events and the dinner buffet on Saturday evening. This unique experience combines fantasy, literary arts, crime/mystery and romance in one place. Books sales and signing will be offered throughout the event, courtesy of Cannon Beach Book Company.
Special "Authors' Weekend" lodging rates are also available for ticket holders and their guests at the Surfsand Resort (800) 797-4666, The Ocean Lodge (888) 777-4047 and Hallmark Resort (888) 448-4449.
