John Nelson from Coaster Construction is surrounded by his work, a recent kitchen project in Cannon Beach built with Canyon Creek cabinets.
Started in 1973 by Maurie Clark and Nick Nelson, Coaster Construction began as a commercial construction operation serving Cannon Beach businesses. Since that time, the company has grown to include residential construction and, with a recent move to a larger space, has added a large workshop and full-fledged cabinet department. In addition to new construction, renovations and remodels, the company also offers custom cabinetry and woodwork for commercial and residential projects.
Now owned by Maurie's son Mike Clark and operated by Nick's son John Nelson, Coaster Construction is still run by local residents and still provides much of the signature architectural style that has become a mainstay in Cannon Beach.Fred Higgins, resident wood artist and shop foreman, has been working with the company for 15 years. In charge of the cabinetry department, Fred's work helped the company to win the recent New Dealer of the Year award from Canyon Creek Cabinet Company.
With the slow down in the construction industry in general, John Nelson and his team are finding that their projects are coming in all sizes. Holly Nelson, the company's office manager and person who knows what's going on at all times, says, "We do it all, no job is too big or too small." From a complete beachfront home build to installing a grand stone fireplace, a full commercial build-out to a simple paint job to spruce up a room, Coaster Construction delivers their standard quality craftsmanship, and now could be a great time to get on their schedule! Coaster Construction is located at 390 Elk Creek Road in Cannon Beach, (503) 436-2235.
