Ecola State Park

Look south along Oregon's coastline dotted with dramatic sea stacks and small islands, past famous Haystack Rock more than 10 miles to the distant Cape Falcon that reaches nearly a mile into the Pacific. Look to the west and see the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, Oregon's only offshore lighthouse, perched on a long rock surrounded by the churning ocean. Ecola State Park is just minutes from Highway 101 near the north end of Cannon Beach on Tillamook Head. The main viewpoint area offers amazing views just steps from the parking area and paved paths lead to more views. Don't be surprised if you share this piece of paradise with a herd of elk grazing in the meadow or a Bald Eagle soaring above as you take in the scene. A short drive to the other side of the park emerges at Indian Beach with more views of interesting rock formations. - By Gary Hayes
