Astoria is Well Read

Astoria has great shops in which a bibliophile could get lost for hours!

Article Image Astoria is a well of opportunity to find good restaurants, galleries or shops to browse, including several great places to stock up on some spring reading material. Dip into the heart of downtown Astoria where you'll find, within just a few blocks of each other, three great shops in which a bibliophile could get delightfully lost for hours. GODFATHER'S BOOKS: A long time fixture in Astoria, Godfather's is located in the heart of the town's historic district, just a few blocks from the Columbia River waterfront. Crammed with books both new and old, if you can't find it, chances are they can special order it. Godfathers's Books offers wifi (for a small fee) and also serves homemade soups, salads and Panache coffees; making for a warm invitation for customers to sit and cozy up for awhile. Located at 1108 Commercial Street, (503) 325-8143. LUCY'S BOOKS is an independent bookstore also calling downtown Astoria home. Opened in 1998, Lucy's offers a wide selection of high caliber fiction, memoir, Northwest regional lore, poetry, parenting, health and more and can special order anything old or new. The store often hosts writers for book signings and readings and offers discounts to local public school districts. Lucy's is located at 348 12th Street, (503) 325-4210. AMAZING STORIES: If you're looking for a read of a slightly different sort, you (and, okay, maybe the kids) may want to check out Amazing Stories. In Astoria since 2006, this fun store has a huge selection of comics, graphic novels, magazines, collectible cards, board games and much more. Looking for an early issue Spider-Man or Avengers comic? They probably have it. Oh, and in case you're wondering whether you've found the right store, look for the life-sized Spidey scaling the plate glass window in front. Amazing Stories is located at 1405 Commercial Street, (503) 325-5518.
