Group Getaways at the Coast

The coast is a can't-miss destination for weddings, conferences, reunions and retreats. Whether you have a group of six or 600, there are a variety of suitable accommodations and services available.

Article Imagephoto by Gary Hayes Finding meeting space at the coast for your small quilting group, corporate retreat or a large family gathering is a snap. Many coastal resorts, hotels and vacation rental homes offer meeting spaces and provide lodging for groups of all sizes.

For big groups, most large hotels and resorts offer meeting rooms, banquet rooms and can provide lodging for everyone in the party. In Newport, Hallmark Inn & Resort has six meeting rooms that can accommodate 32-180 for a banquet or 40-285 for theater seating. Catering is available at Georgie's Beachside Grill. At Cannon Beach's Hallmark Inn & Resort, there are three meeting rooms for 25-105 for banquet seating or 35-140 for theater style. Beach homes for six to 10 people are also available through Hallmark. At the south end of Cannon Beach, Tolovana Inn features 1200 square feet of meeting space that can comfortably hold 160, and there is on-site catering available. The large meeting space at Tolovana Inn comes equipped with kitchen facilities including a nifty quick cycle dishwasher for easy cleanup.

For very large groups, the place to go is Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City. For conventions, the resort has 31,000 square feet of meeting space and can cater meals for up to 2000. Chinook Winds welcomes bus tours with special arrival packets and they pick up from 16 Oregon locations as well as Vancouver, Washington. They also offer several wedding packages where the ceremony can take place either inside or outside overlooking the ocean.

Vacation rental homes can be perfect for small groups who are comfortable sharing space. Several vacation rental companies represent many homes. Oregon Beach Vacations offers a wide variety of fully furnished vacation homes between Astoria and Yachats that sleep four to 14. Most of these vacation homes feature fully equipped kitchens.

Small inns can also be ideal for smaller gatherings. Arch Cape Inn, south of Cannon Beach, is a perfect location for a small wedding with up to 35 guests, and the romantic ambience of this picturesque inn is something to be remembered. They have 10 rooms for 20 guests, so the entire inn can be rented for the event and their own chef can provide the catering.

Rooms for business meetings typically include wireless internet, coffee service and audio-visual equipment available for use. Contact lodging establishment for specific details including pricing, amenities and availability and head to the coast for a memorable getaway or retreat for your group. - by Stella Bennett
