Cannon Beach Brings the Outdoors In During Plein Air & More, June 22-24, 2012

"En plein air" is a French term meaning "in open air" and in the art community it is a celebrated artistic style.

Article ImageShort Sands Bridge by Jeffrey Hull from Jeffrey Hull Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Venturing out of doors to paint under natural light is a time-honored tradition among artists. This tradition is celebrated in Cannon Beach, Oregon at the 4th Annual Plein Air & More Festival June 22 through 24, 2012. Artists will dot the landscape creating artwork "en plein air" around the area affording many opportunities to meet the artists and watch them work.

The Cannon Beach Gallery Group, a membership of local galleries, puts on the annual festival to celebrate this artistic style and the work of the artists they represent. Throughout the three-day event, more than two-dozen artists will step out of their studios onto the Cannon Beach landscape to create new works that will be shown in an ongoing group show at the Cannon Beach Chamber building.

The weekend schedule includes a group artists' reception Friday evening, individual artists' receptions at participating galleries on Saturday evening and an ongoing group show Friday through Sunday.

Maps detailing the location of each artist will be available at all Gallery Group galleries and at the Chamber of Commerce. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions of the artists while they work, or simply observe. All events are free and will take place rain or shine.
