Seaside is Famtastic
Published: 02/27/2011

A trip to the beach pretty much guarantees fun for the whole family, but Seaside, Oregon ups the ante with a wide assortment of attractions designed for the ultimate in family fun, on and off the sandy shores.

Other than the beach, Funland arcade in downtown Seaside, Oregon may be the busiest place in this seashore town. Flashing lights, shrieks of laughter, and the background noise from the sound effects of hundreds of arcade games tell you this is a place for fun. There are games and amusements that appeal to all ages, from the latest digital video games to classics like Skeeball.

Arcades, carnival rides and amusement parks are symbols of some of the nation's best known seashore resorts. In Oregon, the city of Seaside has been the Northwest's place to play at the beach for well over 100 years. Seaside was Oregon's first beach resort town, a popular Northwest destination since the mid-1800s. To serve the annual throng of families seeking fun and recreation, many attractions have sprung up over the years. Some have been around for well over a half century and still offer coastal fun for visitors. Downtown Seaside's famous Broadway Street is jam packed with fun including bumper cars, miniature golf, an old-fashioned indoor carousel and Funland, the Oregon Coast's largest arcade. Seaside's oceanfront Promenade and Turnaround at the end of Broadway are among Oregon's best known landmarks and walking a block to the north on the Prom you'll find one of Seaside's longest running attractions, the Seaside Aquarium. Generations of visitors have come to feed the Aquarium's best know residents, a raucous family of harbor seals who perform their individual attention getting routines in hopes of being tossed a fishy treat from onlookers. It's loud and you may get wet, but the seals' antics always bring smiles. The Aquarium has been in this location for over 70 years. Today, it also features several live tanks with displays of sea creatures and a hands-on discovery center.

Don't miss the other nearby attractions. Family Fun Park is a small amusement park with miniature golf, bumper boats and amusement park rides, located just south of downtown on Highway 101. Seaside also offers an award-winning skate park located next to Sunset Pool and Recreation Center on the east side of Broadway.
