A Pinot for the Puffins
Steven and Maryann Sinkler, owners of the Cannon Beach Wine Shack have released their 2009 Puffin Brand Pinot Noir created in partnership with winemaker Sean Driggers of Pudding River Wine Cellars. It's medium bodied for a Pinot with a nose of strawberry jam, cherry tobacco and leather. Flavors show black cherry and tea with light clove spice on the mid-palate leading to a dry earthy finish with hints of pencil lead, walnut husk and gravel. I'd pair this one with roasted pork tenderloin. This is a nice Pinot Noir, especially at its price of $24, plus a portion of the proceeds from each bottle benefit the Haystack Rock Awareness Program's effort to protect Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, home to Oregon's most visible colony of nesting puffins. You'll find this wine only at the Cannon Beach Wine Shack, 124 N Hemlock, (800) 787-1765.
