Oregon and Washington Coast Dining News: Fall/Winter Season 2012-13

We've gathered some highlights for the season in dining news on the Oregon and Washington Coast.

Holiday Feasts Planned at Bridgewater Bistro in Astoria

In line with their 30-year tradition, Astoria's Bridgewater Bistro will be offering a traditional Thanksgiving feast with your choice of roast turkey, duck, salmon or New York steak with all the trimmings, plus a twist. Latin and South America flavor the New Year's Eve celebration at the restaurant. On the specials menu are Brazilian favorites like Siri Rechado (hot stuffed crab), Feijoada (black beans with sausage and pork, rice, sautéed collards), Hearts of Palm and Orange Salad and Port Wine Flan. Music and dancing by Acustica will also flavor the evening. Reservations are required, call Bridgewater Bistro in Astoria, (503) 325-6777.

Hotel Elliott in Astoria Expands Wine Bar
The historic Hotel Elliott has relocated their wine bar to the recently revamped lobby. The newly expanded wine bar at Hotel Elliott is open to guests and locals, and features regional Northwest wines. They will soon offer a small plates menu and will feature monthly tastings and special events. Hotel Elliott in Astoria, (503) 325-2222.

A Pinot for the Puffins

Steven and Maryann Sinkler, owners of the Cannon Beach Wine Shack have released their 2009 Puffin Brand Pinot Noir created in partnership with winemaker Sean Driggers of Pudding River Wine Cellars. It's medium bodied for a Pinot with a nose of strawberry jam, cherry tobacco and leather. Flavors show black cherry and tea with light clove spice on the mid-palate leading to a dry earthy finish with hints of pencil lead, walnut husk and gravel. I'd pair this one with roasted pork tenderloin. This is a nice Pinot Noir, especially at its price of $24, plus a portion of the proceeds from each bottle benefit the Haystack Rock Awareness Program's effort to protect Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, home to Oregon's most visible colony of nesting puffins. Crepe Neptune in Cannon Beach Adds Sweet New Menu Items
Two new dessert crepes have been added to the menu at Crepe Neptune in Cannon Beach. The new Twin Rocks crepe includes Caramel, chocolate and sea salt and the new Castle Rock crepe has Nutella, peanut butter, banana and whipped cream. Pictured is the popular Smuggler's Cove crepe with Nutella, strawberries, banana and whipped cream. Crepe Neptune offers gluten-free, dairy-free and buckwheat crepes and everything on the menu is under $10. Crepe Neptune in Cannon Beach, (503) 436-9200.

New Menu Items & Specials at South Jetty Restaurant in Hammond

South Jetty Restaurant in Hammond is now featuring daily specials. On Sundays it's Beef Stroganoff; Mondays you'll enjoy $1.50 tacos; Tuesdays are Lasagna days; Wednesday you'll find Baby Back Ribs on special; Thursday it's Chicken Fried Steak; and Friday and Saturday Prime Rib is the featured special. The restaurant offers Karaoke three nights a week and free pool all day on Wednesday. Check out South Jetty Restaurant in Hammond, (503) 861-3547.

Early Bird and Dessert Specials at Fathoms in Lincoln City

Fathoms Restaurant & Bar, located on the 10th floor of the Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City, is offering Early Bird Specials daily from $9.95, if ordered by 5:30pm. Chef Jack Strong Wins Cook-off in American Indian Chef Competition
Siletz Tribal member Jack Strong took first place in an Iron Chef-style cooking competition held at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. as part of the annual Living Earth Festival. He competed against Chef Rob Kinneen (Tlingit) in preparing six dishes in one hour: two appetizers, three entrees, and one dessert. Each dish included this year's surprise ingredient – Heirloom tomatoes. "In a cook-off like this," said Strong, "you have to constantly adjust your dishes based on what's available, what cooked in time. It was very challenging and a lot of fun." Norma's in Seaside Receives National Recognition

The clam chowder at Norma's Seafood & Steak in Seaside recently garnered some national attention in an article on U. S. News Travel site. The article titled "America's Best Seafood" by Liz Weiss offers a collection of top dining establishments from across the country, and lists the best catch dish at each. "Apart from savoring the thick, flavorful [clam chowder], you'll enjoy excellent service and fresh oysters that are brought in from nearby Willapa Bay," says Weiss. J. Rae's Wines Opens Shop in Seaside's Gilbert District
A new wine shop has opened its doors in the historic Gilbert district in downtown Seaside. J. Rae's Wines, located at 608 Broadway, features a variety of wines with an emphasis on family owned and operated wineries from Oregon and Washington. J. Rae's offers daily tastings and periodically features guest wineries in the shop. They are open every day from 11am to 8pm. An October meet and greet with several highlighted wineries is in the planning stages at J. Rae's Wines in Seaside, (503) 791-1571.

Yummy Wine Bar & Bistro in Seaside Adds to Appetizer Menu
Seaside's Yummy Wine Bar & Bistro is now featuring a new item on their appetizer menu. The new Mixed Olive Tapenade at Yummy is a house made olive and caper tapenade served on toasted crostini points and cucumber dill aioli, accompanied with chili aioli, fresh parsley and chives. Yummy is also featuring Happy Hour Mondays October through May where you can order from the Happy Hour menu from open to close. Thursday through Sunday, Happy Hour is 3-6pm at Yummy in Seaside, (503) 738-3100.

Taco Tuesdays Featured at Coffee Addiction in Warrenton

The Coffee Addiction in Warrenton is featuring the popular Taco Tuesdays all day every Tuesday from 6:30am to 5:30pm. You get three tacos including fresh-made white corn tortillas, slow roasted shredded beef, cilantro and your choice of hot sauce, taco sauce or homemade salsa for $4. You'll find The Coffee Addiction at a new location beginning in October, 1140 SE Marlin Avenue, just across from Les Schwab Tires in Warrenton.
